Truhoma USA Launch: a Pilot Project with Second Harvest & Community Solutions

The war is still not overOn February 24, 2022, the people of Ukraine were frightened by loud alarms, there were military planes bombing the cities, soldiers with guns in their hands, convoys of military vehicles destroying everything around and people who were seeking shelters and hiding from death. Unfortunately, this was not just one event. There is no end in sight to the war in Ukraine. Now we helplessly look at abandoned and destroyed houses and cities, see images of devastation and suffering, frightened and desperate people seeking for their safety. The war has not only taken the lives of thousands of people, it has also taken their homes, their families and their identities. Without a home, a job, a family and a support system, they lost their hope and faith that a better day will come. Another international project on the Truhoma platformIt is very important not to forget about those people. They need our help, knowing that they are not alone. That is why Truhoma launched <a href="https://truhoma.org/en-SI/project/Donate-and-directly-help-Ukrainian-civilians%7D/cc79a21c-10ae-4629-c107-08da60b29347" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">another international project</a> for Ukraine in order to continue with ongoing efforts to do its part in helping those in need. We have been fundraising donations for 200 care packages and will deliver them directly into the hands of Ukrainian civilians that need them the most. Natalya from the Ukrainian Embassy in Slovenia, with whom we have been collaborating since the beginning of the war, has connected us with <a href="https://virni.foundation/en/main-en/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Charity Fund Virni</a>, an organization of mutual aid, respect, efforts and faith in Ukraine. The packages have been unloaded and are ready for delivery to the recipients.Andriy Matiychyk, head of the Charity Fund Virni said: "Today the new humanitarian aid came to us from Slovenia. We are very thankful for Truhoma platform that prepared for us 200 food packages. We will deliver them further to very important locations. 80 of them will go to the city of Nikopol where is an urgent need, 100 will go to Gorodenkivska community of Ivano-Frankivsk region and 20 will go to the city of Burshtyn of Ivano-Frankivsk region where there is also huge amount of internally displaced persons."120 packages will be distributed to people in need by volunteers from the Charity Fund Virni, while 80 parcels will be sent to the city of Nikopol with the help of a Ukrainian post office called "Nova Poshta". I don’t have work because I have small children. So I don’t have money too. That is why we are grateful for your support. There is only internet connection and it is weak - today we had it only for one minute.&nbsp;We are good here, children found good friends in school and kindergarten. The city authorities are open and willing to help people. Aid package that we received is very important for me, as I have lost my job and I have three children. Now we are living in the city of Nikopol where we have received humanitarian aid several times. They shared their experience: “Our humanitarian center in Nikopol received the new part of humanitarian aid from the platform Truhoma, Slovenia. We are very thankful that they do not forget about us, and help to the people that stay now in very hard life conditions in Nikopol. For almost one year our city is under constant shelling. Many families have lost their homes, lost their jobs, that is why such help is more than necessary. People that received this help are very grateful that other people do not leave them alone in these hard times. We are also thankful to charity foundation “Virni” that have already helped us several times with children packages, clothes,… Whatever we need, we receive. Thanks to such foundations in Ukraine. Together to the victory. Let's stand together and help Ukraine

Webby Awards, known also as “internet Oscars” has published the nominees and honorees of the 27th edition, among which is also Truhoma’s campaign #AIArtNotHumanWar. Truhoma and Pristop in the company of “internet Oscars”Out of 14,000 entries from around the world, our #AIArtNotHumanWar campaign, designed with advertising agency Pristop, was one of the 20% of projects to receive an Honourable Mention in the Social Campaigns for Public Good and Activism category. #AIArtNotHumanWar Campaign receives an Honorary Webby Award

In the last days of October, Truhoma made major strides in expanding 100% transparency, traceability and efficiency in philanthropy across Slovenia’s borders. Together with our partner GoCrypto which enables cryptocurrency donations on our platform, we were part of the extraordinary Plan ₿ Forum. We took this opportunity to show the world how blockchain-based philanthropy solves issues with trust and transparency that charity organizations are facing all over the world. Plan ₿ ForumOctober 28th and 29th were certainly important dates for both Truhoma and GoCrypto as well as individuals around the globe who are interested in cryptocurrency development. Truhoma is crossing borders, again

Truhoma always prides itself in using cutting-edge technologies in innovative ways to add 100% transparency, traceability and efficiency in philanthropy. Lately, we have recognized the decline in public donations for Ukraine and the rise of AI-generative art, so we decided to use it in an unusual way to help Ukrainian civilians caught in the conflict. Together with the Pristop agency we launched a campaign called “Make AI-generated art, not human-generated war” to encourage donations amid the war in Ukraine that has been raging for over 6 months now.We used real news headlines and events about the ongoing war in Ukraine and applied them in a popular text-to-image AI tool Craiyon. The result is a series of surreal online posters featuring powerful images made by AI, which are hard to distinguish from reality. The message we are sending is that unlike AI-generated images, the war in Ukraine is real and is still being “generated” by humans, while millions of Ukrainian civilians are still in need of support.Ana Lukner Roljic, founder of Truhoma: “At Truhoma we believe that such images should only be generated by AI, not by human hands. But the reality is different. Ukrainian civilians are still requiring our help, in their everyday life they are struggling without basic necessities. We have recently seen a decline in donations as many are getting used to the war in Ukraine. That’s why we decided to use AI art, a powerful creative tool, to attract people’s attention to our mission. Truhoma uses AI art in an innovative way

WHAT IS BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY?Blockchain is a technology based on chaining data blocks. These cannot be changed without breaking the integrity of the entire chain. As is the case with databases, data is recorded onto the blockchain in a digital format. This technology is streamlining the process of recording transactions and tracking funds in a business network.Assets in these blocks can be tangible (houses, cars, money, properties, etc.) or intangible (intellectual property, patents, copyrights, trademarks, etc.). Trading in a blockchain network is lowering the risk and costs for all involved parties.Blockchain is most known for its key role in cryptocurrency systems where it is the foundation for keeping safe and decentralized transaction records. Blockchain technology’s biggest innovation is decentralization that is ensuring data record safety and creating trust without relying on a third person.“As soon as I heard about blockchain technology I immediately knew how important it is and that it can fundamentally transform philanthropy as it can help to finally achieve 100% transparency,” said Ana Lukner Roljić, Truhoma’s founder.WHAT DOES DECENTRALIZED MEAN?Imagine that a company owns a server cluster with 10,000 computers that are hosting a database with all the data regarding customer accounts. This company also owns a warehouse where all these computers are stored. It has complete control over all data on those computers. But what happens if this warehouse loses electricity or if its internet connection is lost? What if it burns down? In any case that data is lost or damaged.Blockchain makes it possible to distribute data in a collection among multiple nodes at different locations where none of these nodes is providing more than 50% of computing power. This not only creates data redundancy but also ensures consistency of stored data. IS IT REALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO CHANGE BLOCK DATA?If someone tries to change a record in one of the database instances, other nodes are not changed. Therefore, if only one user manipulates the record, it is easy to find the node with incorrect data.Even if someone wanted to convince the entire network that data was changed, this would not be possible as individual data keepers are rewarded for fair functioning of the network. In this way, no individual node can change the data in the network.Changing past block data is not impossible, but it can only happen with networks that are not truly decentralized, meaning that one entity is providing more then 50 per cent of network’s computing power. Truhoma is not and will not be using such blockchains in the future. WHAT IS TRUHOMA?At its core, Truhoma is not a charity, but a provider of innovative solutions that are bringing 100% transparency, traceability and efficiency into philanthropy. Truhoma’s vision is a transparent and decentralized philanthropy. It is the first provider that is using blockchain technology to connect charities, donors and donees.Truhoma uses the Bitcoin cash decentralized network. Truhoma is enabling complete verifiability which takes away any doubts,” explained Ana Lukner Roljić.Data, published on the blockchain, is anonymized with chain addresses representing donors, projects or individual requests, webstores and donees in accordance with legislation for protecting personal data. Every donor gets assigned a chain address when he makes a donation. That means that only chain addresses are public and personal data is safely stored in Truhoma’s database. This makes it possible to conduct an external check of how Truhoma operates and prove its database integrity by using its blockchain protocol or records on the blockchain.“Standard web applications are usually using their own databases that are internal and offer limited access. This kind of databases are usually not publicly accessible and its past data can be changed. This is why we decided to use blockchain technology as an extra layer to ensure data integrity. It is enabling maximum transparency for the general public and not allowing past data to be changed by design,” added Miha Ravšelj.Blockchain technology used by Truhoma is making it possible to compare “hashes” from the public blockchain with “hashes” from Truhoma’s database to make sure they are compliant. This data can be checked by anyone that wishes to do so.As with most new technologies blockchain still falls in the domain of technically savvy enthusiasts which makes it not as understandable to most people that are not using it regularly. It is one of Truhoma’s most important tools for ensuring transparent philanthropy, so we decided to present it in a much more understandable way.To do so, a friendlier depiction of donation steps that are recorded on the blockchain is displayed on our blockchain tracker for every donation. Anyone can review it and see what donation steps have already been completed. Once the Truhoma platform confirms that the donation for the selected request was received, it automatically creates an order and sends it to our merchant partner. They prepare the package and pass it to the delivery service that delivers the package. Truhoma sends a short text message with the question whether the package was received to the donee. Once the donee confirms delivery, the donation is complete. Donor receives a notification that the donee confirmed the delivery. With the help of our partners Davidov hram, Sadje v pisarni and our diligent volunteers it only took us a few days to collect and pack all groceries into boxes, load them on a truck on 7th April and started them on a 1,600 kilometer journey to Kyiv. He could not complete the journey in one day and since travel at night is not allowed due to the curfew, he spent the night in Radyvyliv. Tuesday, 12th April - aid packages arrive to Kyiv After a long drive on destroyed roads, packages arrived to Kyiv on Tuesday, 12th April. At the end of the project, when we have raised the funds for all packages, an official will collect them at Davidov hram.<img class="wpcfwimg" src="https://media-staging-us.truhoma.org/cms/500-packages7-1672998792234-5a52b3e7ca73ab36cc955439a8e65e42.jpg" alt="500 packages7.jpg" width="1280" height="853">We have been in contact with officials from the Ukrainian Embassy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and local humanitarian organizations who told us that Kyiv urgently needs food due to these unfortunate and horrible events. Together, we decided that all food packages funded on Truhoma will go directly to Kyiv. We will make the delivery with the help of our partners who will deliver the aid packages to Kyiv and hand them over to officials who will make sure the food gets into the right hands. An official will certify the receipt of all packages at the collection point and provide photos of the delivery.Traceability of donations without known recipientsDue to the specific nature of the project, which this time is collecting donations for people who did not sign up for the project themselves, we will record all recipients with the same data on the blockchain, as we do not know the real final recipients. The donations will be evaluated by humanitarian officials in Ukraine, who will make an expert judgement as to where the donations will go. We believe they will reach the people who need food the most.IMPORTANT UPDATE: We collected enough donations for 500 packages that we will deliver to Ukrainian people in less than 14 days. A huge thank you to all the individuals and companies for showing such compassion in this dire times!!!Transportation of Truhoma’s 500 food packages from Ljubljana to Kyiv was a true odysseyIn Ljubljana, 500 food packages funded through Truhoma were loaded to a truck in Ljubljana.<img class="wpcfwimg" src="https://media-staging-us.truhoma.org/cms/500-packages3-1672998895480-dfac78df2b82f3cc83cd74b7da3f6ee0.jpg" alt="500 packages3.jpg" width="964" height="1280">Its journey to the Ukrainian border started the next day. On Wednesday evening (March 23rd) the truck arrived to Uzhgorod at the Ukrainian border. The next day packages were moved to a warehouse where they were supposed to be re-loaded to another truck and driven to Kyiv. However, due to the curfew (during which driving is forbidden) in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, it was decided to transport the entire donation via train, which is allowed to be driven during the night. With the help of many volunteers, 1/3 of the food packages were put on a train to Kyiv on Friday, 1/3 on Saturday and 1/3 on Sunday. Volunteers transported the packages from the train station to the Volonterska Sotnya charity in Kyiv in three different stages. They were immediately donated to the Ukrainian people, who were very, very happy. Svitlana Dobrohanksa from the abovementioned charity wrote us a message: “Lots of thanks for what you have sent – packages also included chocolates, nuts and cookies. What’s more, everything was packed for separate families. It is really what we need. In such stress, food is very much needed and sweet things are also important, thank you.”During transportation we were in constant touch with Natalya Markevych (<a href="https://www.facebook.com/UKRinSLO" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Embassy of Ukraine in Slovenia</a>) and with Svitlana Dobrohanksa and her daughter Anna Dobrohanksa (<a href="https://www.facebook.com/Volonterska.Sotnya" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Volonterska Sotnya charity in Kyiv</a>) so that we always had the latest updates on the transportation status.We would like to personally thank Svitlana Dobrohanksa, her daughter Anna Dobrohanksa, all the volunteers, and Natalya Markevych for delivering the 500 Truhoma food packages safely to the charity. It makes us and all our donors extremely happy that we could provide a little help to the inspiring Ukrainian people.They were also kind enough to provide us with some delivery photos and signed documents proving that packages got into the right hands.
